Ronny Chieng

Ronny Chieng, born on 21 November, 1985 in Malaysia, is an actor and comedian. Chieng is currently a Senior Correspondent on The Daily Show, Comedy Central. He is the creator and star on the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student. The show premiered on ABC Australia and Comedy Central Asia in 2017. Chieng was born into an Malaysian Chinese family. He was born in Johor Bahru. Chieng grew up both in Singapore and the United States, living in Manchester, New Hampshire from 1989 until 1994. Chieng was a performer with Trevor Noah in 2013 at a comedy festival in Melbourne, Australia. Chieng was then invited to audition for the position of correspondent on Noah's Daily Show two years after. Chieng was named one of the top 10 comics to watch by Variety in July of 2016. In October of 2016, Chieng appeared as a guest on The Daily Show to offer a response to the Jesse Watts Fox News segment that many considered racist. Chieng was known for his expletive-laden remarks concerning the segment of the conservative network Fox News. He also visited New York City's Chinatown in which Watters ridiculed the residents. The video went viral and was featured by the Washington Post, Slate, as well as other media publications. Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout when he was a young teen. Chieng hasn't managed to obtain citizenship or permanent residence in Australia despite living in Australia for ten years. In the year 2018 Chieng made a joke about being cynophobic on the Daily Show and afterwards, he clarified that Chieng was "100 percent unafraid of dogs".
