Susan Sarandon Bio
It was just after the 1968 Democratic convention when there was an audition for a film that had several parts for teenagers who had disrupted convention. Joe (1970) was auditioned in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon, an actor who had trained in acting, was not selected. His wife Susan was chosen for a leading part in the film as Susan Compton as the child of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Then, Joe (Peter Boyle) an obnoxious gangster who works on an assembly line and has a collection of guns, becomes friends with Susan. Five years later, Sarandon creates the film. Janet is a transvestite who gets involved with the mysterious Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). Over 15 years after starting her career, Sarandon was finally active in a campaign for a great role, Annie in Bull Durham (1988), taking a flight on her own expense from Rome to Los Angeles. "It was such an amazing script... It did remove a number of mythsand challenged American definitions of success," she stated. "I attended the film studio along together with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his hot assistants, before returning to the plane. Her relationship with Bull Durham (1988)) supporting actor, Tim Robbins, had produced two sons by 1992. It put Sarandon in the awkward position of having to leave her home to take on roles that truly challenged her. This led to four Academy Award nominations in the 1990s as well as the award for best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980), was her first Academy Award nomination.
